Rep. Lujan Grisham Statement on the Veterans' Affairs MISSION Act of 2018

Statement

Date: May 17, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5674, the VA MISSION Act, by a vote of 347-70:

"This legislation, while imperfect, will improve timely, quality health care for veterans. It expands the family caregiver program to aging and disabled veterans injured before September 11, 2001; consolidates and establishes a permanent community care program; strengthens the VA's ability to recruit, hire, and retrain quality medical personnel; and ensures that veterans receive the care they have earned when and where they need it.

"Although I would have preferred that this bill resolved some long-term funding issues and strengthened VA services even more, I joined 38 Veteran Service Organizations in support of this legislation to reform and expand critical health programs. Moving forward, Congress has an obligation to continue to build on this bill's successes, while holding the Administration accountable as it incorporates meaningful stakeholder feedback to modernize the VA's medical facilities and deliver care more efficiently."
